Bandanna Skirt

Hope everyone is having a fantastically crafty day.

I have an upcoming "Western Party" to introduce the new class of PA students in about a week. Of course I need to make a new skirt to wear with my old boots. Hobby Lobby has bandannas for 99 cents a piece. So I picked up three red ones, and some elastic for about $4

In the past I have made a "wedge" skirt out of a pillow case and some elastic. It turned out great and I wanted to make one out of bandannas.

I was also summoned by my Mom to make a wedge skirt for her out of dark wash denim to wear to a family reunion.

These are my old boots and inspiration for the skirt. 

Supplies:

• 3 Bandannas (for a women's size 2-4 skirt) 
• Straight edge
• Measuring tape
• Chalk
• Elastic (1-1/2 inch)
• Sewing machine and matching thread
• Perhaps a calculator

First you need to measure your waist to determine how many bandannas you will need, and also the size of the wedges you will cut out- add 4-6 inches to this number to allow for seam allowance.

My Wedges were 5" at the top and 8" at the bottom, and 20" long.

Measure out 3 wedges per bandanna and cut them out like so.
Now you can turn them around like this, which will give the skirt a natural A-Line

place your wedges face to face and sew up the seams reinforcing with a zig-zag stitch or surge the seams to prevent fraying.

Once all you pieces are sewed together, wrap it around your waist and make sure its 3-4 inches too big so you can fit it over your bum, the elastic will draw up the material so it fits around your waste.

Fold over a 1-2 inch hem at the top of the bandanna to make a casing for your elastic. Insert elastic and sew the skirt up the back so now it makes a "tube" instead of a flat piece of material.

Now it should look like this

If you are satisfied with the length of your skirt, then just leave it be--since all bandannas come with a tiny hem on all 4 sides, your skirt is pre-hemmed so you are done!!
